They have the same pre-production goal as an 8-year-old Infiniti?

It’s a RWD sub-400 hp executive 4-door liftback not an M5. Sub 5 seconds 0-60 mph is spot on!

“Fastest accelerating Kia ever”
Not like they had a super high bar to crest.

Set the bar low enough and people will be astounded that you even showed up. That’s how I live my life and now everyone is happy to see me and never disappointed!

If Kia is benchmarking performance requirements that are a decade old I don’t see them doing very well once it’s released.

How fast are the current Audi S5, 440i GC, or C43? I’m assuming physics for a 3,800 lb vehicle with relatively near 350 hp hasn’t changed that much. Now I’ll have to go check this stuff out.

C43 and 440i are definitely sub-5 second cars. I’m not sure about the new S5 sedan. Kia is taking major steps up, but a 5 second 60mph time is not surprising anymore for a performance car with a V6.

True that, but I think everyone is so focused on beating the German cars that maybe I should have pointed out that it does out accelerate a V6 Camaro, Ecoboost Mustang, and Challenger R/T.
I’m thrilled with this 5.1 seconds from 0-62 mph goal because it means a 4.9 second 0-60 mph and that catches the eye. Seriously, a Kia sedan in the same group as any other 350 hp performance car from any other automaker is outstanding for a first try. It’s not just competitive but actually in the middle of the pack where all the action is.

And at first sight it’s quicker than Ford’s Fusion Sport.

It beat the previous fastest-accelerating-kia record by 12 seconds.

The Q40 was sold all the way up until 2015 though, no?

Yes, Infiniti sold a decade old car for a decade.

Just trying to understand your point, considering the Infiniti Q50 3.oT Sport makes similar numbers. Infiniti seems to be doing ok, unless I’m mistaken.

My point was the Kia benchmark for a performance car that has not been released was already met over a decade ago by a family sedan probably at the same or less expensive price point. With the release of the Q50 in 2013, the G37/Q40 moved to the entry-level slot in the Infiniti lineup, and you could get a 328hp sedan for just over $33,000 that hit 60mph in just over 5 seconds.

Is this supposed to be the Performance Variant (M, AMG) of the GT or more like the Infiniti Q50 3.oT Sport?

It’s two steps below a full on performance brand. So Audi “S” or the AMG 43 models. Right in between the 300 hp Infiniti Q50 3.0T and the 400 hp Red Sport.
